Después de la indiferencia de “Perfume de Hielo”, mejor ir a lo seguro. Pero desde luego, hay un termino medio entre la indiferencia y quedarte hecho una mierda. Y es que hay que tener el momento para leer según que cosas.

Benedetti nos presenta a modo de diario a lo largo de un año, la vida de Martín, contable de 49 años, viudo desde hace 20 años, hombre de rolletes de un día y con 3 hijos ya mayores, que esta a punto de jubilarse y eso le plantea ciertas dudas respecto al tiempo que va a tener entre manos.

En ese ultimo año, entran a la empresa varias personas, entre ellas Avellaneda, una joven a la que ira mirando con otros ojos con el paso de las semanas y con la que descubrirá que no estaba tan muerto por dentro como pensaba.

Prácticamente hay que leerlo de golpe, por su duración y porque todo lo contrario de lo que ocurre con los personajes de Yoko Ogawa en “Perfume de Hielo”, aquí te interesa lo que siente y piensa Martín en todo momento. A pesar de su homofóbia y cierto machismo propio de la época, es fácil  ir con el cotilleando su diario salpicado con las palabras y frases de Benedetti. Eso si, no es la alegría de la huerta.

    • Pues la verdad es que me ha sorprendido precisamente eso, viniendo de alguien como Benedetti, pero al fin y al cabo es el personaje y su familia los que lo son, y pensándolo fríamente, tanto en Uruguay como en Europa, hace mas de 50 años, que es cuando se escribió la novela, las ideas eran realmente así. Mucho ha evolucionado la sociedad para bien, pero objetivamente, no hace mucho las cosas eran tal y como se reflejan en la novela.
